This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Deliver individual coaching, mentoring, and training for Underwriters on expectations, processes, guidelines, and system operations (Encompass), escalating inquiries for clarification when necessary.
• Act as the main point of contact for all inquiries, clarifications, and instructions for Underwriters.
• Ensure Underwriters comprehend, implement, and enhance their understanding of guidelines, processes, and procedures at CCM.
• Conduct CTC reviews until Underwriters attain lending authority.
• Daily review the CR Lending Authority, ACES, Denial, Suspense, Failed, and 2nd Tier Review Pipeline reports.
• Provide valid findings, training insights, and coaching issues to the VP on a weekly basis.
• Perform at least 2 spot reviews each week on files not assessed by another department/team (i.e., QC, CRUM, etc.).
• Assist in the examination of reports and findings related to Underwriter quality as required.
• Oversee the pipeline to ensure all loans across different areas are within SLA, and that any loans placed in external Underwriter status do not exceed 24 hours (for branch rebuttal, 72 hours).
• Communicate all load balancing, designated underwriting assignments, and urgent/priority reviews (VIP, Transition, etc.) to the Production Coordinators.
• Support loan-level production (underwriting, clearing conditions) based on staffing and volume requirements.
• Review and finalize non-health/safety escrow holdbacks.
• Analyze loan scenarios as necessary.
• Review post-closing/credit risk findings to identify and address training needs.
• Conduct welcome calls for new branches and follow-up calls for existing branches as needed (daily, weekly, monthly).
• Report on Underwriter final bonus metrics; communicate with the VP.
• Interview candidates for prospective Underwriter positions.
• Review and authorize timecards and PTO requests.
• Participate in weekly meetings with the VP and monthly calls with the National Underwriting department led by the SVP of Underwriting; facilitate bi-weekly team meetings with direct reports.
• Bachelor’s Degree or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• DE, SAR, and LAPP certifications are mandatory; USDA experience is an advantage.
• Over 5 years of Mortgage Underwriting experience (FHA, VA, and Conventional) with knowledge of agency guidelines.
• More than 5 years of supervisory experience in underwriting.
• Familiarity with Encompass LOS.
• Understanding of ATR/QM requirements.
• Knowledge of compliance and disclosure obligations.
• Exceptional communication and organizational abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
