
Regional Lead – Rail Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Provide regional oversight for railroad projects and assist in strategic growth initiatives within the designated area.
• Lead the planning, design, coordination, and execution of various rail projects, including industry tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings.
• Collaborate with railroad companies for the execution of various DOT and municipal public agency projects that involve railroad interface for at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
• Act as a senior technical resource and advisor for rail design (geometry, materials, etc.), grading, drainage, and related infrastructure matters.
• Foster and enhance relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry stakeholders throughout the region.
• Assist in business development efforts, including client engagement, proposal formulation, project pursuits, and participation in industry organizations and conferences.
• Provide mentorship, leadership, and technical direction to engineers, designers, and junior staff across various offices and project teams.
• Work together with Project Managers and regional leadership to aid in staffing strategies, resource planning, and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and railroad standards.
• Spearhead the implementation and enforcement of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures throughout project development and delivery.
• Assist in the ongoing development and standardization of rail engineering and coordination practices, design procedures, and project delivery processes across the organization.
• Travel periodically for client meetings, project site visits, regional coordination, and industry events.
• Perform additional duties as required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, and transportation/land development engineering projects.
• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
• Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships.
• Strong comprehension of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
• Experience in mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across multiple projects or offices is preferred.
• Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications.
• Excellent business development, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
• Capability to work independently while contributing to a cooperative and team-oriented culture.
• Willingness to travel regionally as necessary to support project delivery and client engagement.
