Regional Development Director

📋 Description

• Act as the Portfolio Manager for Executive Directors overseeing a portfolio of 5–7 states, collectively generating $3M–$6M annually, and develop and facilitate the execution of a strategy aligned with the organization to foster and sustain robust relationships with both current and prospective funders, which includes crafting personalized stewardship and engagement plans throughout the portfolio;

• Collaborate with Executive Directors within the portfolio to enhance their fundraising pipelines through a variety of strategies, such as relationship mapping, conducting prospect research and analysis, attending events, and working with regional teams on the strategic utilization of external engagements;

• Lead the preparation for—and strategically engage in—funder meetings alongside Executive Directors and national team members;

• Oversee key development initiatives to guarantee the thorough execution of scopes of work (e.g., cross-functional grant proposals, donor stewardship plans and communications, grant reporting cycles, fundraising event logistics, major donor cultivation activities);

• Work collaboratively across regional and national departments to create compelling communications aimed at funders and contribute to the writing of concept papers, proposals, reports, and other documents that nurture strong relationships with funders;

• Maintain state funder pipeline data systems for the portfolio utilizing Salesforce, Asana, and Google Drive platforms to monitor cultivation activities and donor engagement, ensuring that fundraising activities and notes are accurately recorded, and calculate the overall weighted values of pipelines across the portfolio.

• In collaboration with the SVP of Development, assist and co-lead professional development on effective practices for Teach Plus fundraising staff;

• Partner with the development team to deliver specialized support for all Executive Directors, spearheading the creation of tools for pipeline building, cultivation, and stewardship planning, and providing coaching for Executive Directors as needed;

• Collaborate across Teach Plus functions (Finance, Programs, Evaluation, Communications, etc.) to promote continuous improvement of development practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 7 years of relevant nonprofit experience, including 3–5 years dedicated to cultivating and prospecting funders.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies that enhance revenue and strengthen donor relationships.

• Expertise in launching and expanding individual giving programs and building pipelines in emerging regions.

• Proven track record of deepening donor engagement and stewardship, resulting in sustained support and long-term relationships.

• Experience in preparing executives to solicit major gifts.

• Demonstrated success in expanding donor pipelines and boosting contributions across multiple states or regions.

• Ability to effectively manage multiple fundraising initiatives, ensuring timely completion and measurable outcomes.

• Proficient in fundraising tools and data analysis (e.g., Salesforce, Asana) to monitor engagement and inform decision-making.

• Strong communication skills, capable of creating compelling proposals, reports, and donor materials that motivate support.

• Effective project manager and collaborator, able to drive cross-team initiatives that yield tangible results.

• Preferred familiarity with the education landscape and policy advocacy.
