QME Deposition Associate Attorney, California Licensed – Worker's Compensation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Review case files assigned prior to scheduled QME depositions.

• Evaluate the status of cases, including medical-legal concerns and litigation posture.

• Assess and discuss potential settlement or stipulation options with clients or adjusters.

• Engage with attorneys, adjusters, and opposing counsel to explore resolution alternatives.

• Record findings and recommendations from case reviews in the case management system.

• Examine claim histories, medical treatment documents, and QME/AME reports.

• Analyze reports to identify inconsistencies, gaps, causation issues, apportionment concerns, and areas requiring clarification.

• Determine disputed matters and formulate deposition objectives, strategies, and questions.

• Reach out to clients to discuss their current medical status, symptoms, treatment plans, and case developments.

• Conduct both applicant-set and defense-set QME depositions, either in person or remotely.

• Interrogate QMEs and raise appropriate objections on record.

• Maintain comprehensive deposition notes and manage exhibits effectively.

• Make strategic decisions in real time regarding questioning techniques.

• Oversee follow-up responsibilities post-deposition.

• Keep precise case files, deposition logs, and status reports updated.

• Proactively communicate with internal team members about case progress and deposition results.

• Undertake additional litigation responsibilities as directed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required.

• Must possess an active license to practice law in California.

• Be an active member of the State Bar of California.

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in litigating workers' compensation cases, particularly in taking QME/AME depositions, is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with California workers' compensation procedures, QME processes, and deposition practices, or a willingness to learn promptly.

• Previous experience as an associate attorney in a workers' compensation defense or applicant firm is an advantage.

• Strong analytical capabilities are essential.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

• Highly organized with an exceptional attention to detail.

• Ability to handle multiple deposition schedules at the same time.

• Capacity to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and adhere to firm deadlines.

• Proficient in case management software, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and e-filing/e-service systems.

• Professional demeanor and presence suitable for a courtroom setting.
