This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee interoperability and data integration efforts across public health systems, platforms, and partner organizations at the CDC.
• Create, develop, implement, and sustain data exchange workflows, APIs, integration services, and data pipelines.
• Facilitate secure and efficient data transfer among surveillance, research, laboratory, operational, and reporting systems.
• Produce interface specifications, data mappings, integration documentation, and technical procedures.
• Assist in onboarding and integrating new data sources, systems, and external partners.
• Lead the transition of legacy SAS-based analytics, reporting, and data management workflows to contemporary cloud-based platforms.
• Contribute to CDC's data modernization initiatives and enterprise integration projects.
• Support scalable data lake, lakehouse, and modern analytics architectures.
• Collaborate with leads in Data Governance, Data Quality, and Operations.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain solutions for integration and interoperability.
• Create and enhance ETL/ELT processes, APIs, data transformation workflows, and cloud-native data processing solutions.
• Develop reusable code, technical documentation, and integration patterns.
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to data integration, interoperability, performance, and data exchange.
• Engage in code reviews, testing activities, and deployment processes.
• Mentor junior developers and technical staff.
• Analyze business and technical requirements concerning interoperability, integration, and data exchange.
• Identify technical risks, integration challenges, and opportunities for modernization.
• Coordinate testing, validation, troubleshooting, and resolution of interoperability issues.
• Participate in architecture reviews, modernization planning, and technical working groups.
• Liaise with CDC stakeholders, technical teams, data providers, and external partners.
• Provide technical assistance related to interoperability and data exchange.
• Present technical recommendations, architectural approaches, and modernization strategies to leadership and stakeholders.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Health Informatics, Public Health Informatics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
• More than 8 years of experience in public health data integration, interoperability, data engineering, analytics, or modernization initiatives.
• Practical experience in developing data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, APIs, and integration workflows.
• Proficient SQL skills and experience with relational and analytical data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Python, PySpark, R, SAS, or similar analytics and data engineering languages.
• Experience in cloud-based analytics, data engineering, or modernization environments.
• Experienced in managing large-scale data integration and modernization projects.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently across technical and business teams.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Preferred: experience with CDC, HHS, or other Federal public health agencies.
• Preferred: background in public health surveillance, laboratory, immunization, healthcare, claims, research, or programmatic data systems.
• Preferred: familiarity with APIs, FHIR, HL7, XML, JSON, or similar exchange frameworks.
• Preferred: experience with 1CDP, EDAV, Azure, Databricks, SAS migration, Power BI, Tableau, Agile, Scrum, DevSecOps, or associated technologies and environments.
