
Protection & Control Specialist – Field Technologist or Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Assist in the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protective relays, RTUs, PLCs, DFRs, and communication systems.
• Conduct field testing for transmission and distribution systems, transformers, buses, and generation assets.
• Aid in the configuration and commissioning of relay systems.
• Support integration and upgrades of SCADA and RTU systems.
• Analyze drawings, protection schemes, and relay settings.
• Diagnose and resolve field issues with assistance from senior specialists.
• Contribute to project documentation and commissioning reports.
• Maintain effective communication with clients and internal teams.
• Uphold and promote Shermco’s safety-first culture.
• 3 - 7 years of progressive experience in the protection & controls field services.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with protection relays (SEL preferred; GE considered an asset).
• Familiarity with RTU and communication systems (SEL, GE, Novatech, etc.).
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across BC.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Ongoing technical training and manufacturer certifications.
• Strong safety-first culture and a supportive field environment.
