This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Oversees the Roots of Reproductive Justice project and manages the creation of all historical content in alignment with the project’s objectives, values, and protocols, as well as with Collective Power’s mission, vision, and programmatic priorities;

• Ensures the historical accuracy and integrity of the content according to the standards and methodologies of historical research and feminist scholarship, producing a reliable resource;

• Possesses a deep understanding of, maintains, and enhances the overall coherent narrative arc across the platform;

• Performs continuous analysis and audits of the content, involving key audiences in the development and use of the site, and addressing gaps as necessary;

• Crafts stories, placeholders, and timeline entries as needed;

• Leads content development by identifying and collaborating with contributing authors and editors through a cooperative process of defining, researching, revising, and finalizing stories in accordance with Roots’ Content and Style Guidelines;

• Ensures that activists and movement leaders can access and derive significant value from the Roots project;

• Forges partnerships and initiatives with key reproductive justice organizations and leaders utilizing the Roots project to advance their work, in collaboration with other staff at Collective Power;

• Aids activists and movement leaders in connecting with academics to identify and develop further historical information as needed;

• Collaborates with other staff at Collective Power to pinpoint joint efforts and foster collaboration across program areas;

• Co-designs digital tools and supplementary materials to support engagement exercises with RJ history;

• Designs and facilitates convenings, webinars, or symposia that advance the goals of the Roots project, working with Collective Power’s operations and program support staff to oversee logistics;

• Co-creates and engages an Advisory Board for the Roots project, comprising a diverse group of academic and movement leaders to review content, ensure quality, promote site usage, and support the overall project development;

• Maintains ongoing relationships and communication with key project contributors and other significant audiences.


⛳️ Requirements

• A strong commitment to the mission and values of Collective Power and the objectives of the Roots of Reproductive Justice;

• PhD in U.S. history, women/gender studies, or social movement history (preferred) or a proven record of equivalent expertise;

• A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in historical research and writing;

• At least 5 years of experience within the reproductive justice movement and/or other social movements;

• Excellent writing and editing skills, particularly for publications aimed at general audiences;

• Proven ability to build strong and effective relationships and partnerships with a diverse array of academics, activists, and movement leaders;

• Strong facilitation and presentation abilities;

• Preferred existing connections and active participation in networks with historians, academics, national reproductive justice activists, organizers, and educators;

• Demonstrated capability to interact effectively and work successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including varied racial, ethnic, and class backgrounds, genders, and abilities;

• Must possess strong attention to detail; ability to manage a high workload; effectively prioritize, multitask, and problem-solve; adhere to deadlines and details; exhibit excellent organizational skills; communicate clearly and confidently; and demonstrate adaptability while performing well under pressure;

• Strong project management skills with proven experience in program implementation;

• Proficiency in word processing and data entry using Microsoft programs (especially Word and Excel) and Google documents; ability to convey information, messages, and correspondence promptly and in an organized manner; experience with spreadsheets and databases is preferred.
