This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• The Project Director (Early Phase) is accountable for overseeing and managing all facets of project delivery for a designated portfolio of Early Phase projects, which may encompass local, regional, and global clients and/or initiatives.
• Facilitate progress updates for senior leadership, stakeholders, and clients.
• Conduct internal Monthly Project Reviews and escalate issues as necessary.
• Ensure that Project Managers timely identify and request project resource needs.
• Supervise the execution of projects in accordance with client and Emerald Clinical requirements, processes, and agreements.
• Promote consistency, efficiency, and high quality across all projects.
• Serve as the escalation point for key project issues, both internally and for clients.
• Assist Project Managers in meeting financial obligations for assigned projects.
• Analyze monthly project financials, detect trends, and escalate issues as required.
• Monitor compliance with project scope, performance, and realization, implementing enhancements when necessary.
• Maintain gross margins across projects in alignment with organizational objectives.
• Supervise project forecasting and aid in the development of contingency plans for risks or delays.
• Ensure timely and precise completion of invoicing.
• Review scope change documentation prior to submission to the sponsor.
• Collaborate with the internal team on proposals, pricing, and scope modifications for assigned projects.
• Identify and seek opportunities to broaden project scope in partnership with internal teams and sponsors.
• Support project staffing to address current and future requirements.
• Recruit and onboard Early Phase staff as necessary.
• Monitor team performance against quality and efficiency benchmarks.
• Preferred tertiary qualifications in a related science or healthcare field; however, candidates with substantial industry experience may also be considered in the absence of formal qualifications.
• Extensive background in clinical trials, particularly in early-phase studies (Phase I/II), with around 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in project management preferred.
• Line management experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, relationship building, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
• Proven capability to manage multiple deliverables and projects concurrently, with strong prioritization skills.
• Commercial acumen, including experience in budget preparation and tracking, as well as supporting business development initiatives preferred.
