Program Director – Emergency Cash

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Enhance emergency response capabilities, partnerships, and aspirations.

• Lead the implementation of programs and establish immediate partnerships for efficient, respectful disaster responses.

• Supervise the enhancement and expansion of GiveDirectly’s capacity to promptly respond to significant disasters across the United States.

• Seek out and secure new partnerships.

• Manage and develop a team of dedicated and surge personnel.

• Oversee the comprehensive design, planning, and enhancement of U.S. disaster response capabilities.

• Conduct operational diligence, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for specific disaster responses.

• Identify and pursue fundraising opportunities for targeted disaster responses as well as general disaster funding.

• Build and sustain high-quality relationships with designated donors and operational partners.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in managing large-scale program delivery within complex funding environments; prior humanitarian or emergency experience is highly preferred.

• Exceptional alignment with GiveDirectly Values and active demonstration of our core competencies, including emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and fostering inclusivity.

• Strong technical skills and product insight, encompassing data analysis and a willingness to evaluate and stress-test third-party technology platforms and tools, alongside internal development.

• Fundraising: Preference for candidates with a solid background in partnership and relationship management, particularly in fast-paced environments for sourcing and deploying cash.

• Experience collaborating across functions with finance, grants, and partnership teams.

• Clear communicator capable of engaging with state agencies, funders, and internal leadership.

• Detail-oriented while maintaining focus on program outcomes and timelines.

• Comfortable operating in ambiguous situations, exhibiting sound judgment and the ability to manage complex risks.

• Enthusiastic about fast-paced, surge work environments that may lack a predefined playbook for success and require significant “learning by doing.”

• Excited and energized by the work we do and the opportunity to collaborate with others.

• Open to both giving and graciously receiving direct, honest, and constructive feedback.

• Language Requirement: Proficiency in English; additional languages such as Spanish are a plus.
