This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create and implement GitLab reference architecture solutions for both self-managed and cloud environments, utilizing infrastructure as code methodologies.

• Lead migrations of source code management and CI/CD to GitLab, including large-scale enterprise transitions using Congregate.

• Develop repeatable delivery kits, documentation, and enablement resources that assist Professional Services and partners in deploying and adopting GitLab best practices.

• Oversee the complete technical delivery cycle for GitLab Professional Services projects, from initial scoping and technical discovery to implementation and handoff.

• Generate both high-level and detailed technical designs for GitLab infrastructure and functionalities, ensuring that deliverables meet customer specifications and expectations.

• Assess and communicate scalability and security factors (including compliance requirements) in proposed GitLab reference frameworks and implementation strategies.

• Install and configure GitLab in client environments, both on-premises and across major cloud providers, using Terraform, Ansible, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit (GET) in accordance with reference architectures.

• Strategize and execute migrations from source systems to GitLab utilizing Congregate, closely collaborating with customer stakeholders to mitigate risks, safeguard data integrity, and minimize downtime.

• Offer consulting in DevOps and DevSecOps, providing best-practice insights, including guidance on internal frameworks like the Delivery Governance Framework (DGF) and GitLab Flow.

• Coordinate and supervise implementation efforts among GitLab team members, partners, and customer points of contact (POCs), ensuring effective asynchronous communication, decision documentation, and high-quality results.

• Mentor Professional Services and partner consultants by developing documentation, delivery kits, and training materials, and by leading enablement sessions to enhance service offerings.

• Maintain and enhance delivery automation tools with a focus on code cleanliness, maintainability, and appropriate unit/integration testing.

• Assist in scoping and the creation of Statements of Work (SOW) with Professional Services Engagement Managers, stay updated on monthly GitLab releases, and support Regional Delivery Managers in technical vetting and staffing assessments while achieving a 55% billable utilization rate.

• Review and contribute to Professional Services training resources and presentations.

• Create case studies, presentations, design documentation, and best-practice methodologies.

• Collaborate closely with customer project teams to ensure precise task-level articulation of the required work.


⛳️ Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead technical discussions with customers and partners and clearly communicate risks and trade-offs in an asynchronous setting.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time as needed.

• Proven experience delivering two or more of the following consulting services: source code management migration, cloud architecture, DevOps engineering, or CI/CD consulting services.

• Experience in enterprise software development, with the capacity to translate requirements into clear technical designs and implementation strategies.

• Advanced DevOps platform experience, including the design and implementation of reliable, scalable systems with clear performance and security trade-offs.

• Practical experience in deploying and managing infrastructure in both cloud and on-premises settings, utilizing tools such as Terraform and Ansible.

• Proficiency in writing clean, maintainable automation/integration code (e.g., Terraform modules, Ansible roles, scripts) and validating changes through appropriate testing and code review processes.

• Experience executing migrations to GitLab, including the use of Congregate or similar migration tools.

• Understanding of data consistency and integrity principles (e.g., ACID properties) and their impact on migration design and performance trade-offs.

• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities with minimal oversight.

• Ability to thrive in a remote, asynchronous environment, using documented decisions (e.g., issues, proposals, and runbooks) to keep workflows unblocked across time zones while collaborating effectively with GitLab team members, partners, and customer stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or another advanced technical field, or equivalent experience.
