Production Coding Specialist III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Review medical documentation to ensure all required elements are present, including attestations, signatures, dates, and other record requirements.

• Abstract and code surgical procedures across all CPT sections while crosswalking surgical codes to ASA codes.

• Code complex anesthesia cases and apply the appropriate modifiers.

• Code ICD10 and abstract anesthesia times and related events.

• Identify care team providers and review cases for medical direction.

• Meet daily production goals and quarterly coding audit key performance indicators (KPIs).

• Address escalated cases and provide constructive feedback to coding staff.

• Generate management reports as requested.

• Handle complex edits and denials, including concurrency and provider time conflicts.

• Identify and report on trends.

• Comply with company policies and procedures, particularly those related to HIPAA and confidentiality.

• Collaborate with clinicians and various departments, including Quality and Education, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), and vendor coding teams.

• Mentor less experienced coders and assist with training as needed.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• A minimum of 5 years of complex surgical coding experience across all specialties.

• At least 4 years of anesthesia coding experience.

• 5+ years of experience in the anesthesia field.

• Current CPC certification required; CANPC certification is a plus.

• Experience with complex cardiac, critical care, transplant, and interventional radiology coding.

• Experience coding for physicians, CRNAs, CAAs, NPs, SRNAs, and residents.

• Knowledge of NCCI bundling, LCD/NCD, and CMS coding guidelines.

• Proficiency in coding anesthesia time, medical direction, and care team nuances.

• Familiarity with multiple EMRs and various documentation types, including both handwritten and electronic records.

• Working knowledge of MD Cloud Practice Solutions, Medaxion, PC7, and several facility EMRs.

• Working knowledge of Athena IDX for edits, denials, manual tasks, and charge corrections.

• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF.

• Intermediate skills in Outlook.

• Proficient in ten-key operations.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

• Excellent computer, organizational, and time management abilities.

• Capacity to work independently and self-motivate on new projects.
