Production Coding Specialist I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Evaluate anesthesia documentation and other records for essential components, including signatures, attestations, and dates.

• Extract and code surgical procedures from all CPT categories.

• Match surgical CPT codes with the relevant ASA codes.

• Implement applicable modifiers and ICD-10 coding standards.

• Extract anesthesia times and significant events.

• Identify and assign care team providers.

• Review for medical direction compliance.

• Achieve team KPIs, including daily output and quarterly coding audit score targets.

• Adhere to departmental playbooks, pathways, company policies, HIPAA regulations, and confidentiality protocols.

• Carry out other assigned responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Current CPC certification is required; CANPC certification is advantageous.

• A minimum of 2 years of surgical coding experience; experience in anesthesia coding is a plus.

• At least 2 years of experience with complex surgical CPT and ICD-10 coding.

• One year of anesthesia coding is strongly preferred.

• Experience coding for physicians, CRNA, CAA, NP, SRNA, and residents.

• Familiarity with NCCI bundling, LCD/NCD, and CMS coding regulations.

• Capability to review and determine start and end times, care team, and medical direction.

• Experience with various EMRs and types/templates of documentation, including both handwritten and electronic medical records.

• Basic experience with charge capture platforms.

• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Outlook.

• Proficiency in 10-key entry.

• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

• Excellent computer proficiency.

• Ability to work independently and self-initiate new projects.

• Strong organizational and time management abilities.

• Candidates located in California, Hawaii, or Alaska are ineligible; this position is designated as US-TX-Houston.
