This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of mortality-related assumptions and various actuarial inputs throughout product development, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Lead the creation and upkeep of expected mortality models, assumption frameworks, and experience studies.
• Utilize leading data sources, such as post-issue audit data and mortality risk scores, to forecast mortality even before the experience becomes fully credible.
• Track actual versus expected mortality experience and collaborate with underwriting and data science teams.
• Design and execute protective value studies to measure the impact of underwriting requirements on mortality outcomes.
• Assess the influence of applicant behavior on overall expected mortality and the shapes of mortality curves.
• Employ AI to speed up insights and enhance business impact.
• Act as the Ethos mortality subject matter expert, providing guidance to senior leaders internally and engaging with key external partners, translating technical analysis into actionable business strategies.
• FSA or near-FSA designation is preferred; experienced ASA candidates will be considered.
• Over 5 years of experience in actuarial roles within the life insurance sector, with familiarity in both mortality and underwriting models.
• Demonstrated ability to convert third-party data, post-issue audits, and other leading indicators into anticipated mortality outcomes.
• Experience in setting assumptions for life insurance pricing, forecasting, or valuation across a diverse range of products.
• Proven history of collaborating with finance, product, and underwriting teams—integrating actuarial precision with business agility.
• Knowledge of modern data tools and pipelines (SQL, dbt, Snowflake, etc.).
• Strong proficiency in statistical modeling using R or Python.
• Expertise in Excel and actuarial modeling software.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-actuarial audiences.
