This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take charge of the design for Cell Experience across all interaction surfaces: operator software (operations, analytics, settings), physical interfaces (e-stop, lights, sound, feedback), and the associated service touchpoints.
• Design for the entire user journey: how a cell is introduced, onboarded, monitored, handed over, and comprehended by operators, supervisors, plant managers, and field engineers.
• Establish the interaction models, system behaviors, and design principles that ensure autonomous systems feel secure and intuitive for users who did not select them and lack training.
• Advance Sunrise's design language into a cohesive system that is scalable across various manufacturing environments.
• Create designs that account for real-world conditions: edge cases, failure modes, alert states, and recovery flows in dynamic, high-stakes environments.
• Prototype concepts across software and physical surfaces: UI flows, light system logic, display hierarchies, and feedback mechanisms.
• Collaborate directly with engineering teams to ensure designs are accurately translated into production-quality behaviors.
• Validate designs with operators and other users in real-world settings, and iterate based on actual experiences on the floor.
• Set the benchmark for design quality, clarity, and craftsmanship as the design function expands.
• Proven experience in carrying design across both product and service realms—considering the complete journey, not merely the interface.
• A solid foundation in UX, interaction design, and service design, showcasing high visual quality and the capacity to work across all dimensions.
• Experience designing for complex, high-stakes systems where end-users have not commissioned them and cannot always stop operations when issues arise. This could include manufacturing, healthcare, transport, logistics, financial services, or similar domains.
• A systems-thinking mindset: understanding states, flows, behaviors, environments, and the users navigating through them.
• Proficiency in Figma with the ability to swiftly transition from concept to testable prototype.
• Clear and structured communication skills. You can articulate design rationale and influence decisions across engineering, product, and leadership teams.
• A strong sense of ownership and the confidence to make decisions independently, even in the absence of established processes.
• Health insurance
• 401(k) matching
• Flexible work hours
• Paid time off
• Professional development opportunities
