Product Auditor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Provide independent assurance regarding the design, implementation, and operational effectiveness of product controls across payment, wallet, settlement, switch, and associated products.

• Assess product risk exposure and control maturity prior to scaling products.

• Maintain a risk-ranked Product Audit Universe and take ownership of the annual Product Audit Plan.

• Review Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), business rules, transaction workflows, product scenarios, and Maker-Checker enforcement before production releases.

• Conduct ongoing audits of active payment products to identify configuration drift and emerging transaction-risk patterns.

• Execute mandatory pre-production Product Audit reviews and ensure that reconciliation, exception, and fallback controls are operational.

• Utilize SQL to interrogate the Fee Engine for validating commissions, VAT, discounts, splits, reversals, refunds, and chargebacks.

• Trace fund flows and evaluate synchronization between wallet sub-ledgers and the General Ledger.

• Audit product modifications, configuration integrity, master data, and formal change-management processes.

• Evaluate vendor-managed product controls, Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance, third-party API modifications, and risks associated with single-vendor dependencies.

• Provide guidance to product and engineering teams on control-by-design practices and participate in design and architecture reviews.

• Lead post-incident reviews and generate root-cause analysis reports; monitor corrective actions until closure.

• Assess compliance with CBN guidelines, PCI DSS, NDPR, and consumer protection responsibilities.

• Prepare risk-rated reports for Executive Management and the Audit Committee.

• Maintain the Product Risk Register and provide quarterly updates on control maturity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.

• 3–5+ years of experience in Product Audit, Systems Audit, Financial Data Analytics, or Payment Operations in a fintech or financial services context.

• Proven hands-on experience with payment product architecture, wallet systems, and regulated payment flows in a Nigerian or similar market environment.

• Advanced SQL skills for independent data extraction and transaction analysis.

• Understanding of payment systems architecture, including wallets, card processing, direct debit, settlement, and reconciliation processes.

• Basic knowledge of API and integration concepts.

• Comprehensive knowledge of the end-to-end transaction lifecycle: authorization, posting, clearing, settlement, and exception handling.

• Ability to analyze PRDs and process flows, translating product documentation into control flowcharts.

• Mathematical accuracy in fee calculations, interest computations, and split payment arrangements.

• Skill in identifying patterns for anomalies, outliers, and irregularities in extensive transaction datasets.

• Proficiency in risk-based audit methodologies utilizing IIA Standards and the COSO framework.

• Familiarity with control design logic and evaluation methods.

• Competence in root cause analysis techniques.

• Knowledge of CBN payment system regulations, PCI DSS, NDPR, and Nigerian consumer protection requirements.

• Proficiency in SQL platforms such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MSSQL.

• Strong skills in Advanced Excel or Google Sheets.

• Familiarity with Claude or AI tools.

• Capable of engaging with stakeholders, exercising professional skepticism, maintaining independence, and writing risk-rated reports.

• CISA, CIA, or CFE certifications preferred; ACA/ACCA is acceptable when paired with substantial technical product experience and data analytics skills.
