This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Oversee the entire process development cycle.
• Assess processes for effectiveness, precision, and enhancement.
• Launch initiatives for improvement projects.
• Provide Quality/Metrology support: Collaborate with site Quality Engineers on KPIs and KPOs that affect part quality and process control.
• Collaborate with GTS/Site Tooling Engineer to define design specifications.
• Work alongside Tool Engineers on design and development needs.
• Assist in business development by promoting tooling solutions and addressing processing challenges.
• Aid in corrective actions, re-validations, and optimization of tools/processes.
• Supervise process development through Installation Qualification (I.Q.) and Operational Qualification (O.Q.) runs; necessary reporting is required.
• Complete various related projects and tasks as assigned.
• Exhibit expert knowledge and performance standards.
• Implement scientific molding techniques (Decoupled 2 and Decoupled 3).
• Possess expertise in cavity pressure monitoring and control (RJG).
• Participate in technical reviews with clients and mold shops.
• Contribute to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and tool design assessments with Tool Engineers.
• Assist in the development and execution of molding cells.
• Support the design and fabrication of End Of Arm Tooling (EOAT).
• Manage mold shop deliverables and expectations through SIM reports.
• Validate receiving-site specifications (press/shot size/tonnage/special sequence) and conduct machine capability studies.
• Develop processes and analyze Moldflow data for startup and troubleshooting.
• Travel to customer sites, tool shops, and Viant facilities as needed; trip reports are mandatory.
• Prepare, track, and communicate Process Design of Experiments (DOEs), and report findings and suggestions.
• Handle multiple simultaneous projects (minimum of 20 active).
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related plastics discipline, or a 4-year engineering degree, or equivalent completion of a 4,000-hour or 2-year process engineering apprenticeship.
• Certification from an institution in advanced molding or RJG Master Molder 2 (or equivalent).
• Basic Mold Flow certification (or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Master Molding 3 certification is a plus.
• Over 10 years of experience in processing and within a molding environment, including process development, qualification, and mold validation.
• In-depth knowledge and ability to instruct in processing and process development techniques based on scientific molding principles (MM2 skill level).
• Experience with plastics—Injection Molding; Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) preferred.
• Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and general computer skills; SolidWorks (drawing); familiarity with 3D printing/3D software is preferred.
• Basic understanding of FDA, QSR, and ISO 13485 medical device regulations and standards.
• Knowledge of statistics, Cp & Cpk studies for processes; familiarity with I.Q., O.Q., and P.Q. requirements.
• Strong grasp of Design of Experiments (DOE) methods and their application.
• Expert knowledge of cavity pressure technologies and advanced control principles.
• Familiarity with various engineering-grade thermoplastic resins and Mold Flow analysis.
• Travel Requirement: 75% travel across Viant locations in the US, primarily to sites in Costa Rica, Tijuana, BC, and Vega Baja, PR.
