This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Enhance process chemistry on a large scale by leading audits, mapping processes, analyzing data, and conducting trials (both laboratory and mill) to improve charge balance, drainage/retention, zeta potential management, and water system efficiency.
• Develop models for improvement by creating or modifying process models, interpreting outcomes, and applying insights to implement changes on-site that yield measurable benefits.
• Oversee the Process Chemistry Working Group by organizing and facilitating meetings, documenting outcomes, monitoring benefits, and disseminating best practices across various mills.
• Collaborate with suppliers to benchmark chemical processes, assess samples, establish testing methodologies, and co-create top-tier applications alongside Procurement and R&D teams.
• Foster skill development by providing training and practical coaching to mill teams on process comprehension, modeling, and the best available practices.
• Propel change by contributing to the strategy for process chemistry within Group R&D in partnership with the Materials Performance Lead.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Papermaking, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Prior experience in technical applications within the paper industry or with a paper chemicals supplier.
• Familiarity with a production environment in a paper mill.
• Practical expertise in charge balance, drainage & retention, zeta potential, fibre/water measurements, and the transition of methods from lab to mill.
• Strong data-driven problem-solving skills, structured experimentation, effective communication, robust stakeholder management, and a proactive “get it done” attitude.
