This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Create operational and mechanical maintenance procedures for industrial systems and equipment.
• Develop, update, and validate procedures for operation, maintenance, startup, shutdown, emergencies, troubleshooting, and specific equipment requirements.
• Formulate procedures for normal operations, startup and shutdown, emergency situations, maintenance, equipment repair, system alignment, Lockout/Tagout/Try, commissioning, and post-maintenance testing.
• Analyze and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, electrical one-line diagrams, drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, OEM manuals, cause-and-effect diagrams, control narratives, existing procedures, and work packages.
• Identify systems, equipment, components, hazards, prerequisites, precautions, limitations, and acceptance criteria.
• Conduct or participate in facility walkdowns, field verifications, document reviews, and discussions with operations, maintenance, engineering, commissioning, safety, and subject matter experts.
• Convert complex technical information into clear, concise, sequential, and field-applicable instructions.
• Draft procedure steps following approved human-performance and procedure-writing standards.
• Ensure that procedures are technically accurate, comprehensive, correctly formatted, and aligned with plant conditions and client expectations.
• Perform technical and editorial evaluations of procedures created by other writers.
• Integrate client feedback, redlines, field modifications, engineering updates, and review comments into controlled revisions.
• Identify gaps, conflicts, or ambiguities in technical information and formulate Requests for Information.
• Search document-management systems, shared databases, engineering records, and other resources to locate and organize technical documentation.
• Maintain document traceability, revision control, comment resolution, and supporting records.
• Oversee assigned procedures, priorities, budgets, and schedules, while communicating progress, risks, and information needs to the Technical Manager or Project Manager.
• Support procedure templates, writing standards, quality-control measures, and internal work-process enhancements.
• A High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• At least four years of pertinent experience in developing technical procedures for industrial facilities.
• Relevant industrial background in technical writing or design.
• Experience in power generation, pulp and paper, chemical or petrochemical processing, manufacturing, renewable energy or battery energy-storage systems, utilities, commissioning and startup, or heavy industrial maintenance.
• Proven experience independently creating procedures from engineering drawings, equipment manuals, field data, and input from subject matter experts.
• Strong understanding of industrial operations, maintenance tasks, equipment, and safe work practices.
• Familiarity with pumps, motors, gear reducers, bearings and couplings, valves and actuators, lubrication systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, heat exchangers, tanks and vessels, piping systems, instrumentation and process controls, and electrical distribution and motor-control equipment.
• Capability to read and interpret P&IDs, process diagrams, equipment drawings, electrical schematics, specifications, data sheets, and OEM documentation.
• Ability to comprehend system boundaries, equipment functions, operating sequences, interlocks, permissives, alarms, hazards, and maintenance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to compose clear, concise, technically accurate, and logically sequenced instructions.
• Strong skills in proofreading, editing, document formatting, and quality control.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam Revu.
• Ability to adapt to client-specific document-management systems, databases, artificial-intelligence tools, and other software.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and address review comments and directed actions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to engage in computer-based work for extended periods.
• Willingness to travel to industrial facilities as needed.
• Capability to navigate active industrial environments, climb stairs and ladders, access operating and maintenance areas, and wear required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to work effectively in a virtual setting and maintain reliable communication.
