PRN ProFee Multi-Specialty Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Reviews the complete medical records of patients, assigning the relevant codes such as CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG in compliance with UHDDS guidelines and CMS, which are utilized for financial reimbursement and research aligned with Federal Regulations and Hospital and Departmental policies.

• Extracts critical data necessary for the Quality Improvement (QI) department to identify patient care issues and to provide information to The Joint Commission.

• Utilizes various computer systems to access medical records when necessary to ensure timely completion of coding tasks.

• Takes charge of accounts receivable by searching for missing documents to ensure all encounters are coded, including generating necessary queries as required.

• Responsible for addressing any pre-bill edits, denials, and other related issues for assigned accounts.

• Keeps updated technical knowledge regarding legal and regulatory aspects from all relevant jurisdictions related to the business area. This encompasses all ICD-9/10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and/or HHRG updates and modifications.

• Engages in all departmental in-services and updates to remain current with accepted coding guidelines and to enhance personal knowledge of medical practices and treatments.

• Communicates pertinent issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager & Supervisor as necessary.

• Must exhibit proficiency in coding across multiple service areas and/or specialties.

• Maintains a minimum accuracy rate of 95%.

• Achieves average to high productivity in accordance with PHS Productivity Standards.

• Adheres to continuing education (CE) requirements per PHS policy.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is mandatory.

• Must possess one of the following coding certifications at the time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, or CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with the attainment of one of the aforementioned coding credentials within one year of hire.

• One to three years of experience as a coder is required.

• Must have computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Experience with an encoder is preferred.

• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records is preferred.

• Must be proficient in using the internet and other electronic resources for research purposes.
