This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Assist Project Managers throughout the entire tool development cycle.
• Offer guidance to site Quality Engineers on dimension measurement, facilitating correlation among Viant manufacturing locations, mold shops, and customers, while supporting measurement fixture design and overseeing fabrication.
• Collaborate with Site Tooling Engineers on requirements during the design phase.
• Work alongside Process Engineers on requirements throughout the design and development stages.
• Provide engineering assistance for business development to promote tooling solutions and address tooling challenges.
• Offer engineering support for modifications and repairs of existing tools.
• Oversee tooling bench inspections upon arrival at the Viant facility, instructing tool room staff on proper preparation for mold validation as needed.
• Deliver tooling troubleshooting and advanced mold diagnostics support to manufacturing locations.
• Lead structured root cause analyses and implement corrective actions in cooperation with site teams.
• Assist in quoting and early customer engagements by supplying technical input on tooling.
• Manage Design for Manufacturing (DFM), including drawing reviews with site Quality Engineers.
• Oversee mold shop deliverables and expectations.
• Verify receiving site requirements, including press designations.
• Travel to various customer sites, tool fabrication locations, and Viant production facilities as required.
• Certification from a trade school in mold making or a minimum of an Associate Technical degree, or completion of a 4,000-hour or 2-year mold making apprenticeship.
• A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is advantageous.
• Over 10 years of experience in a mold repair shop environment, including tool maintenance, new mold and component building, design, qualification, and validation.
• Experience in medical molding and/or regulated manufacturing settings.
• Proficient in specifying, reviewing, and enhancing tool designs.
• Competence in SolidWorks CAD software, as well as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and MS Project.
• Familiarity with FDA, QSR, and ISO 13485 medical device regulations and standards.
• Understanding of statistics, Cp & Cpk studies for tool grooming, as well as I.Q., O.Q., and P.Q. requirements.
• Knowledge of Gantt charts for scheduling tool builds.
• Familiarity with various engineering-grade thermoplastic resins and Mold Flow analysis.
• Experience utilizing mold simulation tools beyond general mold flow exposure (e.g., Moldflow, Moldex3D, Sigma Soft) to aid in tooling quotes and design decisions.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Spanish proficiency (Required): Fluent professional Spanish (both spoken and written).
• Willingness to travel up to 75% to Viant locations (U.S., Costa Rica, Tijuana, and Vega Baja, PR).
• High self-sufficiency and capability to work effectively across multiple sites with frequent short-notice travel.
