This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee technical guidance, implementation, migration, and integration initiatives for government safety net services.
• Support project planning and the drafting of statements of work and technical specifications.
• Develop and integrate AI-driven solutions—including LLMs, agentic orchestration, and RAG—ensuring they address biases and remain focused on the constituents they serve.
• Execute proof-of-concept applications, software installations, and custom development initiatives.
• Possess the ability to conceptualize in "primitives" and "capabilities," favoring modular, reusable frameworks over custom scripts.
• Design and implement adaptable solutions to challenges related to data quality, normalization, and dissemination.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional government partners to clarify issues, comprehend system constraints, and provide viable and high-impact technical solutions that consider all stakeholders' needs.
• Offer technical insights and expertise to enhance government services for agencies, organizational stakeholders, and other significant audiences.
• Analyze the technical landscape and partner capacity for potential new state engagements, preparing assessments and recommendations.
• Assist in documenting and sharing technical best practices and in framing government RFPs.
• Estimate project scope and draft preliminary project plans for government initiatives.
• Collaborate with clients to develop detailed technical requirement and specification documents during project planning and statement of work drafting.
• Build and maintain relationships and cultivate technical champions within government and partner organizations.
• Engage in calls with government partners and produce written materials to explain complex technical concepts.
• 10+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Solutions Architect with a background in leading projects and engaging with customers.
• 4+ years of experience developing backend systems and data infrastructure in an industry-standard programming language (Python, Java, C#, Ruby, etc.).
• 2+ years of experience in applying or integrating emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI models) into existing workflows or creating new solutions.
• Capable of conducting research to understand current systems and architectures, and subsequently applying this knowledge to devise new solutions and architectures.
• Proficient in identifying modular, reusable solutions, thinking in terms of primitives and capabilities instead of one-off scripts.
• Strong self-management abilities and proven competence in managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Inherently curious and empathetic; adept at balancing the needs of partners, users, and team members while identifying solutions that advance the work towards greater impact.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Tenacious and adaptable; capable of navigating relationships, ambiguity, and technical challenges while effectively overcoming obstacles for oneself and the team.

• Employee Enablement Support:
• Provision of a laptop.
• A one-time payment of $700 for remote environment setup; $200 stipend (included in the first paycheck) and up to $500 reimbursement, following our equipment policy.
• Monthly reimbursement of $50 for cell phone and/or internet expenses.

• Annual stipend of $500 (per calendar year) for professional development; prorated at the time of hire.
• Roll-over option for up to $500 of professional development funds each year, with a maximum accumulation of $1000.

• Retirement & 401k Plans:
• Employees receive a 100% employer match on the first 3% of contributions.
• Employees with over 3 years of service receive an additional 50% match on contributions between 3% and 5%, allowing for a maximum employer contribution of 5%.

• Remote Work:
• Code for America employees have the option to work remotely from anywhere in the US.

• Collaborative working hours: we aim to schedule all internal meetings between 10 AM - 3 PM PT, and all Code for America staff are expected to be available during these designated hours.

• Open personal time off (subject to manager approval), a minimum of 14 paid holidays, and an organization-wide closure from Christmas Day through New Year's Day.
• Paid sick leave of up to 96 hours annually.
