This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria, +4 more states.
β’ Develop software solutions across various domains, ensuring that each project is executed with a focus on scalability, maintainability, performance, security, and operational excellence.
β’ Take on the role of a technical lead, offering guidance and mentorship to team members.
β’ Collaborate with Scrum Product Owners, Engineering Managers, and Directors to uphold quality across all projects that Deimos engages in.
β’ Oversee the quality of work produced at Deimos.
β’ Own the architecture and lifecycle of critical systems, from design to production, ensuring they are scalable, resilient, observable, and operationally efficient.
β’ Promote long-term maintainability and minimize technical debt at a system-wide level.
β’ Design and construct high-scale, distributed services utilizing modern Node.js and TypeScript, with a strong focus on containerization and cloud-native patterns.
β’ Define and advance system architecture across multiple teams and services.
β’ Serve as a technical authority within the organization, evaluating and introducing frameworks, tools, and engineering practices.
β’ Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with clear evidence of operating at a principal level.
β’ Demonstrated impact across multiple teams and systems, not limited to a single codebase.
β’ Proven experience in architecting and scaling production systems successfully.
β’ Expert-level, idiomatic proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
β’ Strong understanding of the Node.js runtime and event loop, asynchronous and non-blocking programming, performance tuning, and memory management.
β’ Experience in designing modular, testable, maintainable services using frameworks such as Express, NestJS, or Fastify.
β’ Significant experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, and eventual consistency.
β’ Practical experience with caching layers (e.g., Redis) and messaging or queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS).
β’ Proven ability to design systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability.
β’ Deep experience with at least one primary cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and working knowledge of others.
β’ Strong understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes or equivalent).
β’ Experience in designing cloud-native architectures, including 12-factor principles, autoscaling, and resilience patterns.
β’ Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB).
β’ Ability to design for performance at scale, including indexing strategies, query optimization, and data modeling.
β’ Proven experience in decomposing monoliths into scalable distributed systems.
β’ Ability to manage transitional architectures (hybrid monolith + microservices).
β’ Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies (unit, integration, and end-to-end), and DevOps practices.
β’ Deep understanding of observability, including metrics, logs, and tracing.
β’ Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams.
β’ Strong communication skills, capable of aligning engineers, product teams, and leadership.
