Principal Software Engineer, Marketplace

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and spearhead the technical strategy for Slate’s next-generation ecommerce platform.

• Architect and enhance the digital storefront, encompassing product discovery, vehicle configuration, checkout, payments, order management, and fulfillment.

• Lead the definition, design, architecture, implementation, and delivery of software.

• Code and test system components while guiding code and design reviews.

• Oversee end-to-end code quality, system tests, functional tests, and integration.

• Simplify intricate problems and create innovative solutions.

• Collaborate with UX and product teams to develop customer-centric solutions and applications.

• Act as a technical authority, providing guidance on challenging trade-off decisions.

• Promote awareness of the business impact stemming from technical decisions.

• Balance technical leadership with business acumen in making long-term technology decisions.

• Mentor individuals and the wider technical community on advanced technical topics.

• Support managers in fostering team members’ career development.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of professional experience in software development.

• Profound expertise in building and managing scalable, customer-facing software systems.

• Strong background in technical leadership.

• Experience in defining architecture, navigating complex technical trade-offs, and influencing engineering decisions across teams.

• Proven track record in designing and building reliable, scalable distributed systems.

• Familiarity with web services, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and contemporary software development methodologies.

• Ability to lead amidst ambiguity, simplify complex issues, and deliver high-quality solutions in dynamic environments.

• Experience with modern ecommerce architectures, including headless or composable commerce models.

• Knowledge in integrating product catalog/PIM, cart and checkout, payments, order management/OMS, and fulfillment systems.

• Experience in integrating third-party platforms and SaaS products via APIs, events, and webhooks.

• Understanding of marketplace or multi-vendor commerce models.

• Experience in creating high-performance customer experiences.

• Proficiency in frontend performance optimization, Core Web Vitals, and conversion-driven engineering.
