Principal, Project Development

📋 Description

• Take ownership of initiative areas from start to finish — including recruiting founders, designing organizations, commissioning products, and managing fellowships — all aimed at guiding transformative technology for the benefit of humanity.

• This position reports directly to FLF’s Chief Operating Officer.

• The mission of FLF is to direct transformative technology towards enhancing life while minimizing extreme large-scale risks. FLF investigates which organizations, projects, or fields can most effectively steer technology towards serving humanity and subsequently works to create those frameworks. We are committed to establishing impactful structures — including headhunting leaders, commissioning products, running fellowships, and incubating new organizations. Our vision is for each Project Development Lead (PDL) to oversee one or more initiative areas (such as AI-enhanced coordination, epistemic evaluations, or epistemic provenance infrastructure), taking responsibility for setting the strategic plan and executing within that area — encompassing activities like founder selection, organizational design, and product scoping. FLF has dedicated strategic staff and has conducted extensive prioritization across initiatives, allowing this role to focus on driving impact within your assigned areas rather than on cross-initiative strategy.

• We are hiring 2–3+ PDLs simultaneously to significantly boost our execution capacity. This is a pivotal growth phase for FLF, and these roles will influence the next generation of our work.

• Enjoy executing others’ plans to achieve these goals as well as independently determining the next steps for an initiative.

• Thrive on working with both “moonshot” projects and concrete MVPs.

• Comfortable sourcing and managing contractors and utilizing tools (including AI) to enhance productivity.

• Communicate effectively and collaborate within a small team that maintains defined roles yet embraces a “everyone contributes to everything” ethos.

• Possess an entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable building something from the ground up with minimal guidance and finding innovative solutions when conventional paths are obstructed.

• Skilled in project management — capable of breaking down complex, ambiguous goals into milestones, tracking dependencies, and ensuring work stays on schedule.
