Principal Program Manager – Design Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and/or oversee programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing the success of the design team (team health, design efficiency, and/or design impact).

• Set program goals, strategies, operating models, and governance while navigating ambiguity and aligning stakeholders.

• Implement program tactics, from defining goals and scope to conclusion, adhering to established schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

• Identify problems and drive them toward resolution.

• Discover connections to other programs, teams, and partners, engaging key stakeholders to align program objectives for shared success.

• Organize and facilitate meetings, create essential communications, and ensure the team and program stay on track with commitments.

• Design and lead design sprints to expedite the design of user-facing products and internal programs and services.

• Mentor and support design team members in achieving design-related tasks such as work prioritization, level-of-effort estimation, asset management, and knowledge sharing.

• Create and implement innovative working methods that enhance DesignOps effectiveness and objectives, utilizing design thinking methodologies and collaborating with team members and key stakeholders.

• Facilitate the scalability of DesignOps by developing, documenting, and disseminating best practices and resources.

• Advocate for the advancement of DesignOps, collaborating with other teams within Autodesk to align, share, and promote the growth of the discipline throughout the company.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

• Over 4 years of experience in design program management within a software setting.

• Knowledge of user-centered design practices, UX tools and techniques, and software development methodologies, primarily Agile.

• Proven success in the above requirements, particularly in establishing and managing programs and successfully completing significant initiatives as well as leading design sprints/workshops.

• Exceptional project management abilities.

• Proficiency in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance it, especially regarding the design team’s contributions.

• Strong foundation in AI and experience in helping designers increase their AI fluency.

• Current knowledge of the latest AI features/tools available for designers.

• Proven strong writing, reporting, and documentation skills (examples may be requested).

• Excellent verbal and presentation skills.

• Willingness to travel as needed, likely 10% or less.
