Principal Product Manager – Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of product strategy within Zillow Group's Platform Engineering portfolio.

• Transform independently managed infrastructure roadmaps into a unified product vision with clear investment tradeoffs.

• Establish best practices for how engineers develop at Zillow.

• Promote the adoption and migration of initiatives across teams without direct reporting relationships.

• Specify how applications and AI agents utilize platform capabilities.

• Set platform success metrics, encompassing adoption, onboarding duration, user satisfaction, and customer results.

• Create a value model that outlines platform service costs and business value.

• Enhance the product operating model across six engineering teams.

• Collaborate with Data Platform, Developer Experience, and Security teams to ensure a seamless internal developer experience and address ownership gaps.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in product management.

• Significant experience in developing internal platforms, infrastructure, or developer tools utilized by multiple teams across organizational lines.

• Proven experience managing a platform portfolio with various interdependent capabilities, customer segments, maturity levels, and life cycles.

• Strong technical proficiency in cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, including compute and container orchestration, networking, databases, identity and secrets management, and CI/CD.

• A demonstrated history of fostering the adoption of platform standards across teams that are not directly supervised.

• Experience in directing complex migrations at scale, including the complete retirement of replaced systems.

• Capability to navigate ambiguity and structure intricate, cross-functional infrastructure projects.

• Experience elevating product standards for engineering leaders through mentorship, shared standards, and sustainable artifacts.

• Familiarity with designing platform functionalities for AI agents, including human oversight and verification of automated processes.

• Excellent, structured communication skills across engineering, platform teams, and executive stakeholders.
