This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create and update Trust & Safety policies and guidelines addressing fraud and identity risks, content moderation, campaign integrity, prohibited fundraising, and platform misuse.
• Detect policy deficiencies or failures by analyzing enforcement and appeal data, calibration disagreements, and the external environment.
• Propose policy, guidance, or product modifications, presenting the rationale to relevant teams.
• Establish definitions, thresholds, decision criteria, and consequences for reviewers and automated systems.
• Ensure consistency throughout the policy corpus and resolve conflicting outcomes at the framework level.
• Expand GoFundMe’s policy framework, including definitions, thresholds, decision logic, and operational standards.
• Manage the policy lifecycle and develop criteria for assessing policy effectiveness.
• Compose policy proposals that outline questions, options, tradeoffs, and recommendations for decision-makers and executives.
• Oversee policy calibration with operations teams and modify policies based on calibration, escalations, and appeals.
• Define the distinction between policy judgment and independent operational decisions.
• Control the policy content for appeals and incorporate appeal and overturn data into policy updates.
• Act as the main policy point of contact for automation, detection, and machine learning partners.
• Convert policy criteria into detection requirements.
• Collaborate across Trust & Safety and liaise with Legal, Product, Engineering, and Go To Market teams.
• Assess potentially sensitive or disturbing content, including violence, exploitation, self-harm, offensive language, images, videos, or text.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in policy development.
• Significant accountability for policy related to fraud, identity, or transactional risk.
• Proven experience in authoring or significantly revising policies that are implemented at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to manage the complete policy lifecycle from identifying issues to post-launch evaluation.
• Experience in operationalizing policy and calibrating its application across various teams.
• Skilled in drafting enforcement guidelines, reviewer training materials, and escalation criteria.
• Capability to write policies that are applied consistently by reviewers and easily understood by users.
• Proficient in articulating policy tradeoffs to Legal and Communications, delineating decisions to Product, and explaining enforcement changes to Operations.
• Preferred: background in developing content policies.
• Preferred: experience with platforms related to fundraising, donations, crowdfunding, or nonprofit sectors.
• Preferred: ability to translate policy into automated detection requirements and assess policy effectiveness using enforcement, appeal, and accuracy data.
