Principal PM II, Location Platform – Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Stay ahead of growth by proactively identifying potential platform issues before they arise, and implementing fault tolerance and capacity buffers to prevent them.

• Integrate quality and reliability into our development processes, establishing performance and reliability as essential product requirements rather than afterthoughts.

• Illuminate the unseen. Lead the ongoing enhancement of our observability and telemetry strategies, ensuring that every team has insight into system health and no one operates in the dark.

• Set the benchmark. Establish company-wide platform KPIs that empower product and engineering teams to deliver swiftly and with high quality, without uncertainty regarding the underlying foundation.

• Identify systemic risks. Collaborate with engineering leadership to uncover and address structural risks that could hinder growth (such as location quality and performance) before they impact the millions of families reliant on our services.

• Simplify platform complexity into actionable decisions. Transform platform health data and infrastructural realities into compelling narratives: what is causing delays, what is needed for the next level of growth, and where to strategically invest now.

• Prepare for future scalability. Work with a diverse array of company stakeholders to assess user growth requirements and develop a proactive strategy to accommodate scaling needs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of product management experience, including substantial time at a principal or staff level with cross-functional responsibilities.

• Demonstrated success in addressing platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing challenges at a rapidly growing consumer technology firm, ideally serving hundreds of millions of users.

• Proficient in performance and reliability engineering, along with observability practices; experience in digital mapping and location services is highly desirable.

• Strong backend systems expertise paired with deep empathy for both internal builders and consumers, understanding their needs.

• Experience in fostering alignment across large, matrixed engineering organizations.

• Exceptional analytical skills; you leverage quantitative data and qualitative insights to define excellence and uphold those standards.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities; you translate complex technical realities into clear business priorities for a variety of audiences.

• Demonstrated ownership and a proactive approach; you recognize problems and mobilize the appropriate individuals rather than waiting for direction.

• Strong opinions on the intersection of consumer technology with security, privacy, trust, and compliance issues.
