Principal Platform Engineer – Connected Aviation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Take charge of and enhance the AWS infrastructure that supports data platforms, ML training, and analytics workloads (Iceberg/Trino, ETL pipelines, Kubeflow/MLflow).

• Design, implement, and uphold EKS-based services and Kubernetes workloads.

• Construct and oversee Terraform infrastructure across various environments (development/staging/production).

• Create and manage CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment (GitLab/GitHub).

• Operate and optimize Kafka/Redpanda clusters.

• Enhance the reliability, observability, and performance of prediction services.

• Provide support for Dagster in data workflow orchestration.

• Collaborate with Data Science, ML Engineering, and Data Engineering teams to productionize models and data pipelines.

• Fortify AWS IAM, networking, and connectivity between cloud and on-premises systems.

• Assist in cyber hardening initiatives alongside our RTX cyber team.

• Identify and progressively improve existing infrastructure and deployment methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

• Proficient in Python.

• Extensive experience with AWS (EKS, IAM, VPCs, and networking).

• Practical Kubernetes experience managing production workloads.

• Experience with managing Kafka (or Redpanda) in production settings.

• Proficient in Terraform for infrastructure as code.

• Experienced in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, GitHub Actions, or similar tools).

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, reliability, and scaling.

• Experience in supporting production data pipelines or ML systems.

• Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, etc.).
