Principal Operations Engineer – Reliability, Data Center Operations

Posted 1 hour ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Respond to on-call escalations when a site encounters issues, utilizing in-depth knowledge of the team and systems to determine what to escalate, when to do so, and how to keep the field crew focused without overwhelming them.

• Travel extensively (over 50%) to various sites to address live incidents and conduct post-incident reviews on-site, bringing effective practices from other locations with you.

• Lead root cause analysis for significant events until resolution, ensuring corrective actions are completed to eliminate the underlying causes of failures rather than just addressing individual instances.

• Analyze patterns across the fleet’s incidents and RCAs, pushing the most valuable learnings to completion, while maintaining a realistic perspective on what can be achieved and what should be deprioritized.

• Transfer insights and practices from one campus to another so that a solution implemented at one site becomes the standard across all sites, preventing recurrence of failures.

• Develop the operational assessment standard and conduct audits for each campus, integrating findings back into the corrective-action process.

⛳️ Requirements

• You have managed a live critical operation and led a team of operators, possessing the deep, acquired judgment from taking charge when it matters most.

• You have been the point of contact for a site when issues arise, successfully triaging problems over the phone, and knowing precisely when to escalate or allow the field team to resolve it.

• You have produced root cause analyses for significant events and tracked corrective actions to completion, demonstrating the difference between an RCA that resolved a ticket and one that addressed a systemic failure.

• You have prioritized a list of RCA actions to focus on the most impactful ones, understanding that an operation committed to too many initiatives tends to achieve nothing.

• You have traveled between sites, engaged actively on the floor, and improved each operation, carrying forward successful practices from one site to another.

• You have created the standard rather than merely adhering to it, conducted audits of real sites without shying away from the findings, and can maintain a consistent standard across various domains.

• Bonus: Experience in hyperscale or large colocation environments with hundreds of MW+. Direct experience with Hardware or Network operations, rather than solely Facilities, incident.io or similar incident management tools, as well as DCIM. You have built an assessment, audit, qualification, or training program from the ground up.

🏝️ Benefits

• Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity).

• Retirement or pension plan, compliant with local standards.

• Health, dental, and vision insurance.

• Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.
