This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the comprehensive mechanical engineering strategy, technical governance, and lifecycle performance of utility-scale gas-fired power plants.
• This role acts as the mechanical authority on the owner side throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• The principal establishes the mechanical design philosophy with a focus on heavy civil/structural aspects, oversees EPC and OEM designs, and ensures the reliability, availability, and long-term operability of the plant.
• This position necessitates a combination of high-level technical expertise along with a general understanding of commercial considerations, regulatory knowledge, and cross-functional coordination to successfully implement utility-scale power projects.
• Develop and maintain the overarching mechanical engineering philosophy for gas-fired power plants.
• Serve as the ultimate technical decision-maker regarding mechanical system design, equipment selection, and lifecycle-related challenges.
• Guide plant-level system and process engineering for gas-fired power plant projects from the conceptual phase to execution.
• Offer technical leadership for gas turbines and gas engines.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
• Over 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering within power plants, including EPC, OEM, or owner-side roles.
• Verified experience with gas turbine and/or gas engine power plants.
• Strong preference for candidates with demonstrated experience serving as a discipline lead or technical authority.
• Extensive expertise in:
• Rotating equipment and thermal systems
• Gas turbines, gas engines, and HRSGs
• Balance-of-plant mechanical systems
• Profound understanding of:
• High-temperature, high-cycle duty operations
• Mechanical reliability, fatigue, and vibration
• Factors affecting plant availability and lifecycle costs
• Familiarity with relevant standards (ASME, API, ISO, OEM standards).
• Capability to establish mechanical engineering direction and enforce standards across various projects.
• Strong engineering judgment in balancing reliability, cost, schedule, and risk.
• Effective communicator with EPCs, OEMs, and executive stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced project development settings.
• Experience in supporting data center power supply projects or other high-availability applications.
• Exposure to engine-based generation or hybrid plant configurations.
• Experience with heavy civil/structural and piping design and construction.
• Familiarity with hydrogen-ready or low-carbon power technologies.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
