Principal Mainframe Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, maintain, and enhance the mainframe systems at Navy Federal.

• Configure and resolve issues with unique operating systems and outdated tools.

• Ensure seamless operation of our systems while developing new features and functionalities to meet business requirements.

• Work autonomously to interpret and devise solutions for complex business challenges that significantly impact functionality or departments.

• Lead the design and execution of intricate mainframe solutions, and maintain applications such as TPHOST programs.

• Set the technical direction for mainframe development and architecture, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

• Monitor system performance and address issues proactively.

• Document and refresh system procedures while providing support and training to end users.

• Develop and evaluate new software and system updates.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least 5 years of experience in mainframe engineering and application development.

• Recognized subject matter expert within the business area/specialization, with an understanding of the interconnections among different disciplines.

• Expertise in Fidelity Information Systems (FIS) and the Systematics Core banking application (GN, RM, ST, IMPACS, ALS, etc.).

• Proficiency in using Changeman.

• In-depth understanding of data dictionaries, copybooks, and parameters.

• Advanced knowledge of mainframe systems, unique operating systems, and outdated programming tools and languages.

• Extensive knowledge of Assembler, COBOL, JCL, and databases such as DB2.

• Advanced understanding of z/OS system software, subsystems, and utilities.

• Significant experience in delivering large-scale mainframe projects successfully.

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
