Principal Generalist Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Design and develop production-grade systems that are dependable, scalable, and observable.

• Take ownership of systems from start to finish: problem identification → design → data handling → implementation → deployment → operations.

• Collaborate across application services, distributed systems, infrastructure, data pipelines, and machine learning systems.

• Troubleshoot intricate production issues across various layers.

• Make engineering decisions based on foundational principles.

• Enhance performance, reduce latency, improve reliability, and increase cost efficiency.

• Contribute to architectural and technical guidance.

• Write maintainable code and comprehensive documentation.

• Elevate the standards of engineering.

• Incorporate machine learning into the role.

• Accurately frame problems: determining when to utilize machine learning versus deterministic systems.

• Handle data comprehensively from start to finish.

• Train, assess, and iterate on models.

• Construct reproducible pipelines.

• Deploy models and track performance, drift, and costs.

• Troubleshoot both system and model failures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong foundation in computer science (data structures and algorithms, operating systems, networking, distributed systems).

• Solid understanding of probability and statistics.

• Experience in building large-scale production systems.

• Proficiency in multiple programming languages (Go, Java, Python, Rust, SQL).

• Comprehension of system behavior under load and in failure scenarios.

• Familiarity with Linux, containers, and Kubernetes.

• Excellent debugging capabilities.

• Ability to reason about invariants and modes of failure.

• Knowledge of data systems, streaming systems, machine learning infrastructure, and performance optimization.
