Principal Generalist Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design and develop production-quality systems that demonstrate reliability, scalability, and observability.

• Take ownership of systems from start to finish: problem identification → design → data handling → implementation → deployment → operational management.

• Collaborate with application services, distributed systems, infrastructure, data pipelines, and machine learning systems.

• Troubleshoot intricate production issues across various layers.

• Make engineering decisions based on fundamental principles.

• Enhance performance, latency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Contribute to the architectural and technical vision.

• Produce maintainable code and comprehensive documentation.

• Elevate the standards of engineering excellence.

• Incorporate Machine Learning into the role.

• Accurately frame problems: determining when to apply ML versus deterministic systems.

• Manage data throughout the entire process.

• Train, assess, and refine models.

• Create reproducible pipelines.

• Deploy models while monitoring performance, drift, and costs.

• Diagnose system and model failures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong foundational knowledge in computer science (data structures and algorithms, operating systems, networking, distributed systems).

• Solid understanding of probability and statistics.

• Experience in building large-scale production systems.

• Proficiency in multiple programming languages (Go, Java, Python, Rust, SQL).

• Insight into system behavior under load and during failures.

• Familiarity with Linux, containers, and Kubernetes.

• Excellent debugging skills.

• Ability to reason using invariants and identify failure modes.

• Knowledge of data systems, streaming systems, machine learning infrastructure, and performance optimization.
