Principal Frontend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance the frontend architectural vision, focusing on design systems, micro-frontends, developer tooling, and long-term scalability.

• Lead frontend initiatives across organizations, influencing various teams and aligning technical direction with product strategy.

• Establish and advocate for standards in accessibility, performance, and usability throughout the company, particularly within our front-end community.

• Mentor and develop technical leaders, raising the standards for frontend engineering excellence.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver integrated, scalable, and customer-focused solutions.

• Identify and drive the remediation of technical debt to ensure frontend scalability and maintainability.

• Influence decisions at the executive level regarding frontend technology strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in frontend engineering, demonstrating proven architectural leadership.

• Extensive expertise in React, Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.

• Experience leading large-scale frontend transformations, such as micro-frontend migrations, monolith decomposition, framework modernization, or design system overhauls that affected multiple teams and necessitated coordinated organizational change.

• Strong understanding of frontend performance optimization, accessibility (a11y), and testing across all layers (unit, component, system).

• Proficiency in modern build and release tools (Webpack, Vite, CI/CD).

• Experience integrating design workflows (Figma, tokens, component libraries).

• Exceptional capability to influence across various functions (Engineering, Product, Design).

• Proven experience leading micro-frontend migrations or frontend platform refactors.

• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP).

• Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture and its frontend implications, including state management across services, handling eventual consistency, error boundaries for service failures, and frontend observability.

• Demonstrated success in leveraging AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, LLMs) to enhance development velocity while maintaining code quality.

• Advocates for the adoption of AI across teams, establishing guidelines for AI-assisted development, and promoting a culture of experimentation with emerging AI-driven workflows.
