Principal Engineer, Software Quality and Engineering Governance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Establish and uphold comprehensive software engineering standards, development practices, and technical governance frameworks across the enterprise.

• Define coding standards, design principles, architectural patterns, documentation requirements, and controls for the development lifecycle.

• Create and sustain reusable development frameworks, templates, libraries, and reference architectures.

• Promote consistency in software engineering practices among global development teams.

• Act as the enterprise authority for software quality assurance and code review methodologies.

• Review critical applications, architectural choices, and high-impact development projects.

• Establish processes for code certification, production readiness reviews, and assessments of technical quality.

• Define governance standards along with review, validation, approval, and traceability processes for AI-generated software artifacts.

• Develop policies and controls for the responsible use of AI development tools.

• Implement automated quality controls throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

• Define and monitor metrics such as code coverage, technical debt, code complexity, security vulnerabilities, performance benchmarks, reliability measures, and defect escape rates.

• Establish automated CI/CD quality gates.

• Lead architecture and technical design reviews for strategic projects.

• Evaluate solutions for scalability, extensibility, resilience, security, and operational supportability.

• Identify opportunities to minimize technical debt and enhance platform quality.

• Define performance engineering standards, optimization practices, benchmarks, and acceptance criteria.

• Mentor software engineers, architects, technical leads, and development managers.

• Promote engineering excellence through coaching, training, and community leadership.

• Empower teams through automation, self-service tooling, standards, and reusable assets.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance software quality while accelerating delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• More than 5 years in leadership roles focusing on architecture, software quality, engineering governance, or technical review functions.

• Experience overseeing AI-assisted software development and generative AI coding platforms.

• Proficiency in Python, .NET, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, cloud technologies, and enterprise integrations.

• Familiarity with engineering platforms such as SonarQube, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab, or similar.

• Experience in implementing engineering scorecards, technical debt programs, and software quality frameworks.

• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and contemporary platform engineering practices.

• Experience leading global engineering transformation initiatives.

• Extensive hands-on experience in reviewing and governing software development across various technology stacks.

• Experience in establishing software development standards, governance models, and engineering best practices.

• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, secure coding practices, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native application development, API and integration architecture, automated testing strategies, and performance engineering.
