Principal Engineer – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Serves as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for significant initiatives, taking complete ownership of project health, system architecture, and end-to-end delivery.

• Collaborates closely with Product Management and cross-functional teams to clarify vague requirements, align business objectives with technical scopes, and manage dependencies effectively.

• Engages in architectural design, practical task breakdown, and execution planning, guiding a team of engineers toward incremental deliverables.

• Establishes reusable patterns, technical standards, and platform primitives for other teams to leverage.

• Enhances engineering efficiency through improved tooling, automation, documentation, observability, and developer workflows.

• Mentors engineers, elevates the quality of technical decision-making, and assists the team in executing tasks consistently.

• Promotes the adoption of AI tooling throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) by developing internal capabilities that automate engineering workflows while ensuring security, compliance, and adherence to best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed production systems.

• Strong backend engineering background with Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Pyramid, or Django.

• Proven experience leading technical design for intricate systems, including making architectural decisions, evaluating trade-offs, and guiding implementation across multiple engineers or teams.

• Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases, covering schema design, performance tuning, query optimization, and data modeling.

• Experience in building and managing cloud-native systems utilizing technologies like AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.

• Deep understanding of CI/CD, observability, reliability, and operational excellence in production settings.

• Capability to navigate ambiguity, decompose complex technical challenges, and foster alignment across engineering, product, and design teams.

• Strong ownership mentality, with the ability to independently drive high-impact initiatives while working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Proven ability to enhance engineering quality through technical standards, design reviews, mentoring, and reusable platform patterns.

• Enthusiasm for enhancing developer experience through improved platforms, tools, automation, documentation, and engineering workflows.

• Flexibility and adaptability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic startup environment.
