Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction and architectural standards for backend and infrastructure systems within the Hosting organization.

• Design and enhance large-scale Python backend services operating on Linux, supported by MySQL at a production level.

• Facilitate the modernization of Perl-based and cPanel-integrated systems while ensuring live customer sites and provisioning automations remain unaffected.

• Champion site reliability engineering practices across Hosting, collaborating with DevOps and SRE teams.

• Lead incident response initiatives and system hardening activities.

• Own the cross-organization standard for AI-augmented delivery, encompassing usage, code review, provenance, licensing, customer-data management, and performance measurement.

• Conduct root-cause analyses for intricate, high-impact production challenges and implement sustainable architectural solutions.

• Mentor senior and staff engineers.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership to develop multi-quarter technical roadmaps that support the growth of Bluehost.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in backend and infrastructure engineering, with extensive hands-on expertise in hosting platforms.

• Advanced knowledge of Python and Linux systems at real production scale.

• In-depth expertise in MySQL, including performance optimization, schema design, and troubleshooting on a large scale.

• Significant hands-on experience in Perl and cPanel environments.

• Proven track record of modernizing legacy systems without disruptions.

• A strong foundation in Site Reliability Engineering and infrastructure practices is preferred.

• Experience in applying architectural patterns that promote systemic resilience, fault isolation, and operational governance is preferred.

• Familiarity with integrating AI throughout the delivery lifecycle and selecting suitable models for various challenges.

• Experience in establishing standards for AI-generated code review, provenance, licensing, customer-data management, adoption, outcomes, security, and compliance.

• Demonstrated technical leadership skills, including setting direction, mentoring engineers, and influencing decisions across multiple teams.

• Exceptional judgment in operating within complex, high-scale, customer-facing SaaS environments under significant business pressures.
