Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead the technical vision and design of accounting software systems within the team.

• Establish the technical roadmap for AI systems, which includes shared AI SDKs, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, feedback mechanisms, and agentic workflow infrastructure.

• Take responsibility for the architecture and technical strategy of complex backend and AI platform systems from initial design to production deployment.

• Direct technical design efforts for ambiguous, cross-functional projects and oversee their execution.

• Assess and choose scalable technologies.

• Contribute to production code as an active individual contributor.

• Design and manage LLM-powered systems, which encompass RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, evaluation infrastructure, guardrails, and model observability.

• Ensure end-to-end reliability of AI systems and establish quality benchmarks.

• Advocate for AI-native development practices and tools.

• Mentor engineers and set coding standards, review practices, and architectural documentation.

• Collaborate with recruiting efforts to build and expand the team.

• Work alongside Engineering Managers, Product, Design, and QA teams.

• Engage in design reviews and roadmap discussions.

• Manage cross-team conflicts and make technical decisions independently.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

• Between 13 to 17 years of experience in software development, encompassing building, integration, security, and architecture.

• Proficiency in object-oriented programming, primarily using Python.

• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React, CSS frameworks, HTML, and JavaScript.

• Experience with relational databases including Postgres and MySQL.

• Skills in SQL database schema design and query optimization.

• Knowledge of cloud technologies, preferably AWS.

• Proficient with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Practical experience in developing or integrating LLM-powered systems.

• Understanding of tool-calling agents, planning and execution loops, and retrieval augmented generation (RAG).

• Working knowledge of LLMs, embeddings, semantic search, and RAG pipelines.

• Experience in building and delivering production-grade software utilizing AI-assisted workflows throughout the entire SDLC.

• Capability to critically assess AI-generated code and outputs.

• Ability to recognize opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into products and workflows.

• Previous experience with enterprise-grade APIs is advantageous.

• Prior leadership experience in a team setting is beneficial.

• Experience with GraphQL and Apollo Server is a plus, but not mandatory.

• Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced startup environment.
