Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Establish technical direction and architecture standards for backend and infrastructure systems throughout the Hosting organization.

• Design and enhance large-scale Python backend services operating on Linux, supported by MySQL at production scale.

• Facilitate the modernization of Perl-based and cPanel-integrated systems while ensuring no disruption to live customer sites or provisioning automations.

• Advocate for Site Reliability Engineering practices within Hosting.

• Collaborate with DevOps and SRE teams on incident management and system fortification.

• Take ownership of the organization-wide standard for AI-enhanced delivery, encompassing lifecycle usage, code review, provenance, licensing, customer-data management, and outcome assessment.

• Lead root-cause analysis for complex, high-impact production issues and implement resilient architectural solutions.

• Mentor senior and staff-level engineers.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership to formulate multi-quarter technical roadmaps that support Bluehost's growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of backend/infrastructure engineering experience, featuring extensive hands-on expertise in hosting platforms.

• Advanced knowledge of Python and Linux systems at real production scale.

• Strong proficiency in MySQL, including performance optimization, schema design, and large-scale troubleshooting.

• Extensive hands-on experience in Perl and cPanel environments.

• Proven track record of modernizing legacy systems without causing disruptions.

• Preferred: robust background in Site Reliability Engineering and infrastructure practices, utilizing architectural patterns for systemic resilience, fault isolation, and operational governance.

• Experience in leveraging AI throughout the delivery lifecycle and selecting suitable models for various challenges.

• Proficient in establishing standards for AI-generated code reviews, provenance, licensing, customer-data handling, adoption, outcomes, security, and compliance.

• Demonstrated technical leadership, including setting strategic direction, mentoring engineers, and influencing decisions across multiple teams.

• Exceptional judgment in complex, high-scale, customer-facing SaaS environments under genuine business pressure.
