Principal Engineer, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop new internal AI systems from start to finish, encompassing everything from initial concept to production.

• Take responsibility for retrieval quality, permissions, security, and reliability to ensure trustworthy AI on a company-wide scale.

• Engage directly with large language models (LLMs), retrieval systems, agents, and integrations.

• Collaborate with teams throughout the organization and work closely with functional leaders and their teams.

• Implement AI solutions into real workflows, establishing sustainable systems and ownership.

• Lead evaluations of build versus buy options and execute rapid proofs of concept.

• Make strategic decisions regarding the commitment to or discontinuation of technical initiatives.

• Collaborate directly with executive leadership.

• Establish technical standards for AI across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building production systems at a Staff+ level, including data infrastructure, retrieval, or applied AI utilized daily by numerous users.

• Hands-on expertise with the current AI technology stack.

• Experience with a production AI system that showcased the potential for AI to be incorrect.

• Practical technology instincts, with the capability to justify technology decisions.

• Background as a founding engineer, consultant, or in forward-deployed roles.

• Comfortable taking responsibility for outcomes in another team's area of expertise.

• Regularly engage with AI tools and agents.

• Ability to deliver projects every few weeks while upholding trustworthy standards.

• Strong communication skills to articulate technical decisions to a CEO.

• Must have the legal right to work in the US.

• Successful completion of a background check, including identity verification.

• Willingness to participate in one in-person interview at the nearest Jobber office.
