Principal DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Define and lead a long-term strategy for infrastructure and platforms that aligns with business goals and R&D requirements; spearhead cross-organizational initiatives (e.g., multi-cloud strategies, disaster recovery architecture, platform modernization).

• Create robust, scalable, and secure architecture designs; conduct architectural reviews to identify systemic challenges/technical debt and opportunities for optimization; outline rollout strategies for significant changes (database migrations, Kubernetes upgrades, network redesigns) to ensure operational continuity.

• Enhance internal developer platforms and tools (self-service infrastructure, golden paths/paved roads); set up IaC and GitOps standards along with reusable patterns that balance productivity, safety, compliance, and cost.

• Implement organization-wide reliability practices (SLOs/SLIs/error budgets); lead observability and alerting strategies; reduce toil and enhance MTTR through automation and self-healing mechanisms; pinpoint bottlenecks and execute efficiency enhancements.

• Oversee platform-wide security and compliance advancements (zero trust, encryption in transit/at rest, regulatory compliance); bolster controls (segmentation, secrets management, access, vulnerability management) and secure the software supply chain.

• Enhance cost visibility and governance; pinpoint cost optimizations across cloud, databases, and services without compromising reliability or performance.

• Mentor DevOps Engineers, Senior DevOps Engineers, and Tech Leads; participate in promotion committees; create learning paths and knowledge-sharing opportunities for the infrastructure community.

• Provide escalation support for intricate incidents; lead post-incident analyses and drive enhancements to incident response processes and tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expert knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi/Terraform), and modern DevOps methodologies.

• Practical experience with platform engineering at scale (developer platforms, paved roads, self-service).

• Demonstrated ability to design large-scale, distributed systems while balancing complexity, reliability, and cost.

• Proven track record of translating business objectives into infrastructure strategies and technical roadmaps.

• Strong leadership skills through influence (guiding multiple teams without direct authority).

• Exceptional communication skills in English (both written and verbal), capable of explaining complex technical subjects to diverse audiences.

• Systems thinking: a comprehensive understanding of how infrastructure, applications, data, and security interact across the stack.

• Expert-level troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities in ambiguous, high-impact situations.

• In-depth awareness of industry trends and best practices (cloud, DevOps, platform engineering).

• Advanced certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Architect, AWS SA Professional, CKA/CKAD/CKS, security certifications).
