Principal Backend Engineer – Casino

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Define the technical trajectory and architecture for intricate, cross-team systems.

• Participate in the design and execution of sophisticated features.

• Collaborate with other Principal Engineers and Architects throughout the Technical Team, serving as a mentor to Staff and Senior Engineers.

• Act as a reliable technical consultant for various stakeholders, including Engineering Managers, Technical VPs, and Product Managers, influencing roadmap and architectural choices.

• Exhibit strong technical skills, able to produce high-quality code, and demonstrate a passion for technology—particularly in relation to how AI-assisted tools are revolutionizing software design, development, and deployment.

• Conduct Code Reviews and guide Developers, Senior Engineers, and Staff Engineers on the rationale behind specific technical strategies.

• Ensure the quality, scope, and timely delivery of all your outputs.

• Advocate for the implementation of AI-assisted development methodologies and tools within the team, contributing to enhanced engineering velocity and code quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) integrated into your daily workflow, alongside a genuine interest in the impact of AI on software engineering.

• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

• Experience with a company handling significant traffic volumes, where each technical decision must support the demands of our customer base.

• Profound knowledge of AWS Cloud technologies and expertise in creating scalable multi-region applications.

• Familiarity with the following technologies: Java and Spring / SpringBoot.

• RDBMS experience (e.g., Postgresql, CockroachDB).

• Knowledge of streaming technologies (Amazon Kinesis, Kafka).

• Experience with Message Queues (SQS, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ).

• Background in agile development methodologies.

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).

• Familiarity with Micro-Service and Service-oriented architectures.

• Preferred experience in the Casino industry or a similar regulated sector such as Banking, along with a track record of promoting the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g., AI code generation, AI-assisted code review, agentic coding tools) in an engineering organization.
