• Take charge of the implementation of the Executive Team's technical strategy, transforming high-level objectives into actionable milestones and scalable design systems.
• Lead by example by actively creating prototypes, core libraries, and foundational projects that establish the benchmark for the rest of the team.
• Establish and uphold technical standards, ensuring that each design decision addresses failure modes, scalability, and performance within our production environment.
• Conduct a thorough design review process that emphasizes backward compatibility and robust verification for our data-intensive systems.
• Advance our microservices (Node.js/EKS/AWS) with a focus on minimizing technical debt and enhancing system efficiency as we scale.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to ensure requirements are clearly defined and that the final product aligns with the original vision.
• Master the data lifecycle, from IoT ingestion to storage and processing, laying the groundwork that our teams will eventually manage.
• Get hands-on to implement standards for observability and monitoring, ensuring our platform achieves the highest possible uptime.
• Over 12 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• At least 4 years in an architectural leadership role (Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, or equivalent) where you were responsible for technical standards and design quality across multiple engineering teams.
• Proven experience in translating high-level ideas into well-documented patterns and designs that teams can implement autonomously—not just creating systems yourself, but empowering others to build them effectively.
• Extensive knowledge of distributed systems and microservices architecture, including managing and evolving a sophisticated microservices environment (not just greenfield design).
• Strong practical experience with JavaScript and Node.js in service-oriented architectures.
• Significant experience in data architecture, including designing systems that manage high-volume, real-time data (e.g., IoT or event-driven systems), and making tradeoffs regarding storage, processing, and access patterns.
• Experience in enhancing system reliability and performance at scale, particularly in terms of observability, monitoring, and fault tolerance.
• Proven ability to influence across teams, fostering alignment without solely relying on authority.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Full-time opportunity.
• Location: Remote - nationwide.
