Principal AI Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Architect Embedded Agent Cycles: Shift Mainspring from an "AI-assisted" approach to a framework where autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents are intrinsically woven into the engineering lifecycle—from code generation and hardware simulation to automated testing and documentation.

• Workflow Optimization: Discover and redesign significant engineering bottlenecks, implementing AI agents that function as integral members of the development team.

• ROI & Performance Measurement: Create a data-driven framework to assess the effects of AI on engineering speed, error reduction, and resource optimization. You will be tasked with defining and reporting clear ROI metrics for all AI initiatives.

• Standardized Guardrails: Design and execute automated guardrails within the CI/CD pipeline to ensure that AI-generated outputs adhere to Mainspring’s stringent safety, security, and quality standards.

• Responsible Agent Execution: Develop governance frameworks for agent behavior, including "human-in-the-loop" checkpoints, audit logs, and access controls to prevent drift or unauthorized actions in production settings.

• Model Evaluation: Create comprehensive benchmarking systems to assess model reliability and cost-efficiency, guaranteeing a streamlined and high-performing AI stack.

• Agentic Infrastructure: Design the comprehensive infrastructure needed to support multi-agent systems, including orchestration layers, long-term memory (Vector DBs), and tool-use capabilities (RAG).

• Build vs. Buy Strategy: Serve as the technical authority on the decision to utilize third-party AI platforms or develop proprietary agentic tools tailored to our unique hardware-software engineering requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering or ML infrastructure, demonstrating a successful history of advancing AI beyond "chatbots" into functional, automated workflows.

• Deep Expertise in Agentic Frameworks: Established experience in constructing autonomous systems utilizing the Gemini and Anthropic SDKs (particularly through Vertex AI). Mastery in designing agentic patterns—including MCP (Model Context Protocol), multi-agent orchestration, and complex state management—in high-scale production environments.

• Strategic ROI Focus: Capability to connect technical execution with business value, including experience in presenting ROI cases to executive leadership.

• Security & Compliance Mindset: Proficiency in developing "safe-by-design" systems, particularly concerning data privacy and the prevention of model hallucinations in critical engineering tasks.
