Principal 3D Character Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.

📋 Description

• Establish the character art vision for the project and uphold quality standards for the team.

• Oversee AAA-level character production, managing the entire pipeline from modeling and texturing to implementation within the engine.

• Collaborate with Art Directors and various disciplines (Animation, Technical Art, Design, etc.) to ensure outcomes align with the game experience.

• Enhance character production pipelines and workflows to create a more efficient production environment.

• Evaluate work from team members and outsourced artists, offering targeted feedback.

• Oversee project timelines, resources, and task priorities to guarantee that deliverables meet high standards and deadlines.

• Create game-optimized characters while being mindful of technical constraints.

• Establish the visual direction and quality benchmarks for all character art throughout the project, and design the standards and workflows that empower the team to achieve consistent results.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in game development or related fields, including at least one shipped game.

• A portfolio that demonstrates photorealistic, high-quality character art showcased in-engine.

• Proficient in both English and Korean.

• Strong grasp of the complete character art pipeline.

• Profound knowledge of human anatomy, form, proportion, costume, and material representation.

• Expertise in major DCC tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.

• Professional experience with Unreal or Unity game engines.

• Experience in leading a team or mentoring other artists.

• Proven ability to communicate effectively and resolve issues in a collaborative setting.

• Background in owning environment art quality and direction while meeting deliverables on previous projects.

• Capability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

• Willingness to work during Pacific Time zone business hours (10am-4pm) and regularly meet in the evenings for international collaboration.

• Ability to travel internationally 1-3 times a year for business purposes.
