Pre-sales Solutions Architect, Databricks

Posted Jul 18

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

đź“‹ Description

• Advocate for Databricks solutions: effectively communicate the advantages of the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, including Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Photon, Databricks SQL, Workflows, MLflow, Mosaic AI, and Databricks Apps, customizing presentations and demonstrations based on each prospect's business and technical requirements.

• Provide technical consultation: serve as the go-to Databricks expert during sales interactions, managing in-depth technical inquiries, addressing concerns, and positioning Databricks against competitors such as Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, native cloud data warehouses, and open-source Spark/Iceberg stacks.

• Conduct discovery and gather requirements: lead organized discovery sessions with data, analytics, and platform teams to document current architecture, workloads, governance constraints, and desired outcomes; convert insights into prioritized solution alternatives.

• Design high-level solutions: create Databricks-based reference architectures across AWS, Azure, and GCP, encompassing ingestion, Lakehouse modeling (Bronze/Silver/Gold), Unity Catalog governance, MLOps with MLflow, GenAI patterns (RAG, fine-tuning, agentic), and optimizing cost and performance.

• Execute demos and POCs: develop and present engaging demonstrations and time-limited POCs on Databricks that validate value based on predetermined success metrics.

• Manage RFPs and proposals: oversee the technical components of RFP/RFI responses, technical proposals, architecture diagrams, and Statements of Work in partnership with the Commercial and Delivery teams; ensure SOWs are precise, feasible, and financially viable.

• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration: serve as the link between Sales, Practice Leads (Data Engineering, ML, GenAI, Platform), and Delivery, ensuring proposed solutions are achievable, commercially reasonable, and aligned with capacity and timelines.

• Align with partners: collaborate closely with Databricks field teams—account executives, specialist SAs, and partner managers—on joint initiatives, co-selling efforts, and partner programs.

• Embed in delivery: Occasionally, you will integrate with the delivery team in a billable capacity on client projects—typically as a Databricks Solutions Architect during design or mobilization phases—keeping you engaged with the platform and ensuring pre-sales commitments are smoothly transitioned to delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Proven experience in technical pre-sales, solutions architecture, or hands-on consulting with the Databricks platform (or an equivalent Lakehouse/big data stack).

• Strong understanding of the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform: Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, Apache Spark, Unity Catalog, Databricks SQL, Workflows, MLflow, Mosaic AI/model serving, and proficiency in at least one cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Confident in designing and presenting Lakehouse and data platform architectures, including ingestion methodologies, medallion modeling, governance, MLOps, and GenAI workloads (RAG, fine-tuning, agentic patterns).

• Proven ability to conduct discovery sessions, demos, POCs, and RFP responses for complex data/AI projects, effectively communicating with audiences ranging from engineers to C-level executives.

• Strong commercial acumen—comfortable developing SOWs, estimating project sizes, and linking technical decisions to business value, total cost of ownership (TCO), and time-to-value.

• Outstanding communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities.

• Databricks certifications (e.g., Data Engineer Associate/Professional, Machine Learning Associate/Professional, Databricks Certified Solutions Architect) and additional AWS/Azure/GCP certifications are highly preferred.

• Willingness to travel within the UK (and occasionally further) as business needs require.

🏝️ Benefits

• Remote Working: Flexible options to support your best work.

• Be at the forefront of technological innovation, working with a talented team passionate about making a difference.

• Opportunity to Work on Cutting-Edge Projects: Engage with innovative technologies and make a significant impact in the field.

• A Collaborative, Inclusive, and Dynamic Work Environment: Be part of a culture that values diversity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
