This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Utilize advanced power system theory, simulation knowledge, and engineering expertise to design and validate high-performance microgrid control systems.
• Collaborate closely with controls engineers, electrical design teams, external suppliers, and utility operators.
• Create tailored power system models and assess controller performance under both normal and contingency scenarios.
• Develop and manage comprehensive EMT and dynamic models that represent various energy assets.
• Identify and simulate contingency events to ensure system stability and performance.
• Work alongside other engineering teams to enhance design understanding and incorporate simulation insights.
• Engage in Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering focusing on power systems or control systems.
• 4-8+ years of experience conducting EMT and dynamic power system studies for microgrids, islanded systems, or weak-grid environments.
• Practical experience with PSCAD or similar EMT tools.
• Familiarity with Simulink or Modelica and real-time simulation techniques, including SIL and HIL.
• Strong knowledge of inverter operating modes such as grid-forming, grid-following, and droop control.
• Experience in modeling dynamic loads, including large and rapidly changing datacenter demands.
• Understanding of modeling communication delays, control system latencies, protection scheme interactions, and fault ride-through behavior.
• Awareness of utility interconnection and market requirements, especially within ERCOT.
