This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Supervise and manage all activities related to vessels and overall Marine Transportation operations.
• Serve as the project manager from the time of bid award until completion, coordinating with customers, crews, agents, and vendors.
• Develop voyage plans, project submissions, and ENOA/Ds.
• Maintain an understanding of the fleet’s status and acquire in-depth knowledge of equipment and operations.
• Respond to operational emergencies or urgent situations.
• Create and uphold both short- and long-term project schedules.
• Manage vessel crews and strategically design crew schedules in alignment with USCG COIs.
• Monitor credentials and guide crews on licensing and career development.
• Conduct evaluations of crew performance.
• Ensure fleetwide adherence to regulations, Curtin’s SMS, and company standards.
• Assist with the maintenance and compliance of shipboard equipment, including fire systems, extinguishers, pyrotechnics, and lifesaving gear.
• Aid in managing vessel certificates, loadlines, COIs, audits, and corrective measures.
• Support and engage in company training initiatives, including content creation and leading training sessions.
• Maintain the Vessel Management System and Helm Connect.
• Ensure crew involvement and accuracy in VMS submissions.
• Keep accurate and relevant templates updated.
• Review and authorize fleet-related requisitions.
• Assist with crew recruitment, resume evaluations, interviews, and onboarding processes.
• Ensure the issuance of PPE as required.
• Over 5 years of experience working as a Master or Mate.
• Graduation from a Maritime Academy with a licensed officer can substitute for 2 years of the experience requirement.
• Preferred: a minimum of 10 years of experience as a tugboat captain with ocean towing and/or salvage background.
• Preferred: experience in marine-related projects in a key role.
• TWIC Card or the ability to obtain one.
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of ISM is preferred.
• Ability to prioritize requests effectively.
• Strong communication abilities.
• Capable of multitasking.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
• Attention to detail is crucial.
• Proficient time management skills.
• Capability to use stairs regularly.
• Willingness to travel and be away from home for extended durations.
• Openness to work on projects that involve remote operations for prolonged periods.
