This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.
• Evaluate and accurately assign codes for Trauma Surgery and E/M cases to ensure timely maximization of reimbursements.
• Assess and accurately code E/M visits along with office procedures.
• Capable of working independently and investigating coding scenarios as needed.
• The coder is responsible for achieving our daily production targets and maintaining a quality goal of consistently averaging a 95% accuracy rate.
• Participate in conference calls as required to provide insights and/or feedback.
• Liaise with leadership regarding coding or documentation issues and trends.
• Remain updated on all coding guidelines (including those specific to surgery) and maintain necessary credentials.
• Engage in coding department and educational meetings.
• Willingness to broaden coding expertise into additional specialties.
• Uphold confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information.
• A High School diploma is mandatory.
• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Successful completion of at least one AHIMA or AAPC certified program with the corresponding professional credential (CCS-P, CPC, etc.); must be active and in good standing.
• A CPC or CCS-P certification is essential; CPC-A is not accepted.
• A minimum of 5 years of physician coding experience (recent hands-on production), with at least 3 years of recent coding specifically in Trauma Surgery.
• Must possess proficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10 coding, modifiers, disease processes, surgical techniques, and Medicare and Medicaid billing policies for professional services.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, as well as electronic healthcare record information and billing systems.
• Experience with Google Workspace is preferred but not mandatory.
• Auditing experience is considered a PLUS.
• CPMA certification is a PLUS.
• Experience with Cerner PowerChart is a PLUS.
